Evoland is a great game that puts you in a video game world that evolves as you find chests in the game. It really feels like a historical walkthrough of games from the very basic; you can only go left and right to the games closer to today. The unlocks are funny and creative in their wording.
There is also a cute story that goes along with the game, but to be honest, the fun from the first bit of the game comes from evolving the game. As someone who played on Atari through today's high-end PC games, it is a fun and entertaining journey. There is a lot of nostalgia that comes with playing the game, but even someone that did not play games 'back in the day' can also really enjoy evolving the world and getting into the story. Even the music evolves and reminds me of the history of games.
If you get the legendary edition, as I have, you get both Evoland one and two in it. You have a choice at the losing screen which one you want to play through. For this blog, I only played the first one before I hit my three hours. Knowing how much fun I had with this first one, I am excited to play the second one.
I will say I find it odd, and maybe this is me not having some setting done right, that it seems like the game should be able to be used with a controller. It says press A on the title screen. However, it doesn't seem to work with my controller, and I have to use the enter key. It annoys me each time I am on the title menu but so minor in the grand scheme of things.
This is for sure a game I would get again and goes on deep discounts regularly.
