Pretty sure I got A Short Hike in one of the monthly Humble Bundles. This is another game that I highly recommend using a controller for. You can use a keyboard, but it is pretty frustrating with the movements. I gave up after about 15 minutes of that and used my controller. I still wish I could use the joystick over the d-pad, but c'est la vie. That is really "bad" thing about this game unless you are a graphics snob.
This game is all about the story, and it doesn't disappoint.
I really don't want to ruin the story since it is so crucial to this game so I will do a 10,000 foot high-level summary. It is a cute story adventure game where you go to visit with your aunt for the summer on an island that is like a state or national park. Your aunt convinces you to go to the top peak of the island you are as it was a great place where she and your mom use to go all so you can get cell phone service because you are like an angsty teen. How you get to the top is the main part of the story, but when you reach the top, is when it all comes together.
I ended up completing the journey in just under three hours. You can continue the game after you get to 'the end' of the journey, but I couldn't really find a purpose to do so unless you like to get Steam Achievements.
Just to add, the game reminds me a lot of the Nintendo game Animal Crossing. Everyone is an animal and you can fish or dig. Even the dig marks on the ground are similar to Animal Crossings. You can find random money laying around as well as treasure chests. That is about where the similarities end because there is a story and adventure to this game.
I really don't want to ruin the ending, but it really gave me the feels. It is totally worth a playthrough.
